Members of the REALTOR® Association of Southwestern Illinois (RASI) showed their generosity earlier this month as they collected toys for the Griffin Center in East St. Louis, food and toiletries for the Community Interfaith Food Pantry in Belleville and gifts for 34 clients of the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois.
RASI members donated a large van full of toys for the Griffin Center, including a bicycle, dolls, cars and games. Many of the items were used as Christmas presents for the children who visit the Griffin Center. The center provides free daily social service and educational programs for more than 400 children who live in East St. Louis public housing. In addition to after school recreation, the Griffin Center provides tutoring and homework assistance, summer day camps, violence prevention training and advocacy services for children and their families.
The Community Interfaith Food Pantry is a nonprofit charity that provides food to families in need throughout the Belleville and Swansea communities. It is supported by 11 area churches, local organizations, local businesses and individual donations.
The Violence Protection Center provides comprehensive services to domestic violence victims in St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties, as well as their children. Thanks to the generosity of RASI members, 34 individuals will receive presents this year. The center has been giving free, confidential help to domestic violence victims for more than 35 years.
RASI has more than 900 members who work in St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph and Clinton counties. RASI officers include: Mike Gross, president; Angie Zahn, president elect; Judy Ross, secretary/treasurer; and Doug Payne, immediate past president. Deb Frazier is the account executive.
