Those who get involved in our industry can help shape it for the better. Illinois REALTORS® wants to give our members more chances to be that catalyst, so we are launching six new committees / forums this fall. To provide members with more opportunities, Illinois REALTORS® is also reopening applications for at-large committees in case you missed the first deadline.

The deadline to submit your application for both is Fri. Aug. 14 at 5 p.m.

NEW Illinois REALTORS® Committees

Member Engagement & Communications Committee

Member Engagement & Communications Committee
Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair, and 8-13 at-large members
Purpose: To advise and recommend to the association’s professional communications team matters concerning communication messaging, including messaging about the value of Illinois REALTORS® membership, and matters concerning communications vehicles and platforms used to communicate with members, state and local associations, and where applicable, real estate licensees. In addition, committee members shall provide advice and opinions to the association regarding conference speakers and subjects.
IMPORTANT: For 2027, the selection of the Chair and Vice-Chair will be made from the total pool of applicants for the committee.

Professional Development Committee

Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair, and 8-13 at-large members
Purpose: To advise and recommend to the association (1) matters concerning professionalism within the industry and techniques, safeguards, instruction, and best practices that will elevate professionalism beyond the standards set forth in the NAR Code of Ethics, and (2) subjects that may be considered for inclusion in new, licensed educational courses. The Committee may recommend guidance and other materials for dissemination to the membership or subjects or topics for coverage at upcoming IR conferences that are aimed at promoting or increasing professionalism. At least half of the Committees members must be licensed managing brokers.
IMPORTANT: For 2027, the selection of the Chair and Vice-Chair will be made from the total pool of applicants for the committee.

Local Board Leadership Forum

Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair and each 2027 local association officer.
Purpose: A forum to allow for the exchange of ideas among leadership from local associations and to provide a means for two-way communication between state and local association leadership; to determine and administer hot topic idea exchanges throughout the year; and to provide a venue for local association leaders to discuss IR programs and policies.
IMPORTANT: For 2027, all applicants will be considered for the Chair and Vice-Chair position. All applicants for leadership of this Forum are required to be a local association past president. All 2027 Illinois local association officers will be automatically added to this forum – no need to apply.

The Future Forum

Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair, and 8-13 at-large members.
Purpose: A forum to allow for the discussion, consideration and exploration of the future technology and business trends of the industry. The Forum’s leadership may be called upon to lead virtual or in-person sessions throughout the year or at Illinois REALTORS’® conferences.
IMPORTANT: The Chair and Vice-Chair will be required to display knowledge of and/or experience with new, innovative technology and/or advanced business trends. Following submission, all applicants will receive a separate online document in which they can elect to be considered for Chair and Vice-Chair and to share more details on their interest, qualifications and experience with the subject matter.

Local Governmental Affairs Committee

Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair and each 2027 member of a local governmental affairs committee
NOTE: This committee is different from the current Local Governmental Affairs (Special) Committee, which will undergo a name change beginning October 1, 2026.
Purpose:
The purpose of this Committee is to provide a centralized setting for members of local governmental affairs committees for the sharing of ideas, news and information. Examples of meeting topics may include joint presentations by GADs and members surrounding local public policy debates, policy campaign wins, and campaign strategies. This Committee will also provide a forum for the sharing of information on Illinois REALTORS’s® extensive advocacy efforts, political resources and the processes for utilizing each of them.
IMPORTANT: For 2027, applicants may apply for the Chair and Vice-Chair position. All applicants for leadership of this Committee are required to have previously served as Chair of a local governmental affairs committee. All 2027 members of a local governmental affairs committee will be automatically added to this committee – no need to apply.

Industry Partners Policy & Issues Committee

Meetings: Virtual & In-Person (as needed)
Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair, the Illinois REALTORS® President-Elect, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Public Policy Forum and 8-12 at-large members
Purpose: The purpose of this Committee is to provide a forum for the sharing of ideas and information from members that are actively involved in Illinois REALTORS® industry partner groups, like NAHREP, AREAA, NAREB (Dearborn), and The Alliance. The Committee shall engage in discussions and consider timely public policy issues in order to facilitate more collaboration between Illinois REALTORS® and the industry partner members and organizations.
IMPORTANT: All applicants will be required to display experience and involvement either at the local or national level with at least one industry partner organization. After submission, all applicants will receive a separate online document in which they can elect to be considered for Chair and Vice-Chair and to share more details on their interest, qualifications and experience with the subject matter.

Length of service: November through October of each year.

Selection process: Your application will be reviewed by the Executive Committee.
