The size and strength of younger U.S. Latinxs helped overcome many of the negative impacts of the pandemic and helped drive Latinx household growth for the sixth consecutive year.

That’s according to the 2020 State of Hispanic Homeownership Report, a joint endeavor by the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) and the Hispanic Wealth Project™.

The rate of Hispanic homeownership in the U.S. has increased for six consecutive years, starting with 45.4 percent in 2014 and ending 2020 between 48 and 49 percent. The number of Hispanic owned households has increased 10 consecutive years.

In the decade leading up to the pandemic, Latinos accounted for more than 50 percent of the net homeownership growth in the U.S.

In 2019, Illinois’ Hispanic Homeownership rate was 54.61 percent (12th in the country), while having a population rate of 17.5 percent (11th), an unemployment rate of 3.6 percent (11th) and a median income of $60,252 (13th).

The mission of NAHREP is to advance sustainable Hispanic homeownership in America by: educating and empowering real estate professionals who serve Hispanic homebuyers and sellers; advocating for policy that supports the organization’s mission; and facilitating relationships between industry stakeholders and housing professionals. NAHREP provides community outreach, industry educational and business networking events.
