It’s been a season of major victories and growing momentum for REALTOR® advocacy across Illinois.
In Boone County, local REALTORS® and their Government Affairs Director (GAD) secured a significant victory by successfully advocating for the abolition of impact fees. This long-awaited change didn’t happen overnight—it took consistent effort, collaboration, and a strong case made by our team on the ground. Their persistence paid off!
Down in Bloomington, REALTORS® celebrated another key victory as the city adopted a new ordinance to incentivize housing development. It’s a smart move that encourages more homebuilding in a market that needs it. Meanwhile, the Village of Island Lake reached out to REALTORS® for guidance as they crafted an ordinance for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)—a powerful example of how our expertise is being sought out and trusted.
But the work doesn’t stop with offense. Our team is hustling just as hard on defense—stepping in to improve or stop bad ideas before they take root.
- In Danville, we helped reshape a landlord registration proposal into something far more reasonable.
- In Pontiac and Clinton, REALTORS® successfully advocated to make fire sprinklers optional in new residential construction.
- And when it comes to short-term rental ordinances, we’ve worked to improve proposals in Chicago, Wauconda, and Normal to better reflect the needs of property owners and communities.
As summer heats up, so does our advocacy. From RPAC fundraisers to Let’s Talk Real Estate events, now is the perfect time to engage, connect, and build relationships with your local leaders and fellow REALTORS®.
