IAR Government Affairs Director Howard Handler battled a minus 42 degree wind chill to advocate for REALTORS.

IAR government affairs director Howard Handler gets ready to take on a Polar Vortex on the way to advocate for private property rights in Skokie this week.

The Village of Skokie, nearly two years after it was first proposed, adopted a very comprehensive rental regulation and crime-free ordinance.

The IAR and the members of the North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® were there every step of the way and successfully negotiated a number of key changes with Village officials.

The ordinance is far from perfect though.  Among the other organizations that weighed-in against various provisions included the ACLU, the Institute for Justice, the Sargent Shriver Centers on National Poverty Law, Open Communities and the Skokie Independent Landlord Association.
