The REALTORS® Association of Northwestern Illinois was part of a successful effort to obtain access for residents of the Freeport area to rural housing programs.

The organization worked with elected officials including U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo, to make sure that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service was maintained after an Oct. 1 eligibility deadline.

The effort, which began in 2008, has resulted in assistance to more than 300 families and $21.2 million in economic benefits for the Freeport area. The programs can continue to be used through a new deadline of March 27, 2013, and efforts are already well under way to adjust the requirements for eligibility again.
