FPCs meet Tuesday to discuss meetings on Capitol Hill

Illinois Association of REALTORS® FPCs meet in Washington, D.C., prior to several days of meetings with the state's congressional delegation.

IAR’s Federal Political Coordinators met Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the Washington Hilton to discuss upcoming meetings on Capitol Hill.

Each year, REALTORS® attending the Midyear Meetings & Expo devote several days to meeting with most of Illinois’ congressional delegation. The meeting on Tuesday was to go over the points the FPCs will make as they work to protect private property rights.

Federal Political Coordinators play an important role in making sure elected officials know REALTOR® issues. They serve as a liaison between the real estate industry and policymakers.

Of key concern this year is protecting the 1031 Like Kind Exchange. The federal tax policy allows deferral of capital gains when property is sold  and replaced with a qualifying and similar property. The program is seen as critical to the nation’s economy.
