The Illinois Senate on Tuesday passed SB 1380, a controversial bill that would allow municipalities to attach liens for nuisance code violations on all of a property owner’s real estate and not just the offending properties. Illinois REALTORS® are strongly opposed to the measure as municipalities already have tools in place to deal with recovering costs on nuisance properties.

The bill needed 30 votes for passage in the Senate and was narrowly voted out of the chamber Tuesday on a final vote of 30-19 (see the roll call below.) The bill now heads to the Illinois House where Illinois REALTORS® will continue to fight this legislation. Watch for additional information and possible Calls for Action on the issue.
