REALTORS® can learn about housing discrimination during Fair Housing Month by listening to any of the four podcasts recommended by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

The Bowery Boys: New York City History podcast titled, “Building Stuyvesant Town: A Mid-Century Controversy,” focuses on the controversy surrounding two residential housing complexes built in New York City in the late 1940s for white World War II veterans and their families.

Location! episode the National Public Radio show, Code Switch, focused on the ways the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) failed to change the course of racial segregation in America. Originally broadcast on April 11, 2018 — the 50th anniversary of Congress passing the Fair Housing Act – the episode also includes several New York residents who used hidden microphones as they sought to rent an apartment.

In “The red line: Racial Disparities in Lending,” reporters from the Center of Investigative Reporting assert that people of color were more likely than whites to be denied a conventional home loan in 61 metro areas.

And the November 2013 “House Rules” episode of the National Public Radio show, This American Life, documents how the location of American homes can affect cancer rates, unemployment and whether the city repairs roads in the neighborhood.
