The Illinois House is considering a measure that would speed the process by which land could be seized through eminent domain. The measure, which has passed the Senate, could speed construction of the proposed Illiana Expressway.

According to the Chicago Tribune story:

“There’s no question property can be condemned for a highway. The state or whoever is going to get it,” said Dan Tarlock, a professor at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. “The question is how much the landowner is going to get paid. Quick-take is designed to take first and then fight about the money.”

The Illiana would link Illinois and Indiana, passing through Will County on the Illinois side of the state line.
