It was a bit like opening day at the ballpark last weekend with the REALTOR® Nationwide Open House a kickoff for the spring housing market. We heard from hundreds of Illinois REALTORS® who held open houses April 10-11. In Peoria alone, more than 200 open houses were publicized in four pages of the Central Illinois Homes Guide. Kewanee Real Estate held a series of 18 “15-Minute Open Houses” in Kewanee and Stark County, according to broker-owner Melodee Yaklich.

REALTOR® Tina Cannova of Preferred Real Estate in Freeport promoted the Nationwide Open House in the monthly office newsletter, local newspapers and radio. Says Cannova: “It went well. Lots of participation from our agents, buyers and sellers. A few contracts were actually written.”

It was the first year for the REALTOR® Nationwide Open House Weekend timed to remind buyers of the looming April 30 tax credit deadline for the $8,000 first-time buyer and the $6,500 long-time homeowner tax credits.
