The lure of homeownership and the financial and lifestyle benefits it has to offer are strong. Fannie Mae recently surveyed delinquent borrowers and found that even with their housing struggles, they were committed to the idea of homeownership.

The findings counter claims by some that the U.S. could become a nation of renters, said Steve Deggendorf, a director with Fannie Mae.
