The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) recently reported to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) that a real estate licensee received a phone call telling her that her license is inactive and needed to be reinstated. The caller said they were from a law firm and that the licensee needed to send $3,000 to get her license re-upped. IDFPR stated that it does not hire anyone to call inactive or expired licensees . These facts have all the markings of a scam. If something like this happens to you, you should notify the local police and/or the Illinois Attorney General’s office.
