Woodstock residents will enjoy the benefits of the Pollinator Meadow Project at Emricson Park for years to come, thanks to the work of area REALTORS® during the previous 18 months.

The Heartland Organization of REALTORS® partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the Land Conservancy of McHenry County and the city of Woodstock to enlarge and enhance Emricson Park. Woodstock used a $3,800 NAR placemaking grant to help buy land next to the park and transform it into a gathering place for park patrons that will also attract the state butterfly – the Monarch – and other beneficial insects.

Funds raised for the project helped purchase new perennial pollinator plants and paid for the materials used to build a boardwalk, a park bench and a sign.

Jim Haisler, Heartland’s chief executive officer, says the number of Monarch butterflies has been in decline, so transforming the area into an attractive habitat for the species will help remedy the situation.

The Woodstock grant is one of numerous grants that Neeley Erickson, Illinois REALTORS® local governmental affairs director for Heartland, has helped local associations secure. Get more information on grants through your local governmental affairs director.
