The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is encouraging members to educate themselves about – and take steps to improve – cybersecurity, paying particular attention to the tools and systems they use while working remotely.

CyberPolicy, an NAR partner, offers four ideas that REALTORS® can implement now:

  • Put device security first – Require everyone to keep their operating systems, firewalls and anitivirus software up to date.
  • Keep work data on work computers – Encourage members of your brokerage to conduct work on one computer and one smart phone because security gaps will be created if operating systems, firewalls and antivirus software are not maintained on personal devices.
  • Manage smart phones – Many brokerages have not enacted cybersecurity protocols for smart phones that match their computers. Older phones can pose risks, too.
  • Obtain cyber liability insurance – Cyber insurance from a reputable provider can help cover damages caused by cyber crime that attacks you or your customers. REALTOR®-owned brokerages can learn more about CyberPolicy through the NAR REALTOR® Benefits Program.
