The Lamoine Valley REALTORS® Chapter of the Peoria Area Association of REALTORS® donated $3,136.74 to Macomb and West Prairie elementary schools in December for the annual “Boots for Kids” fundraiser.

The project ensures that disadvantaged local elementary school students have proper footwear throughout the winter. Macomb and West Prairie split the total donation, with $1,568.37 going to each district. The poverty rate is above 50 percent in Macomb, Good Hope and Colchester elementary schools, so the donations are much needed.

The entire fundraiser was a community effort, said Robin Briney, chair of the “Boots for Kids” committee and owner and managing broker of Key REALTORS® in Macomb. “The needs of children in our area are so great that we are pleased to help. REALTORS®, community business owners and leaders, and the public at large all showed incredible generosity for this cause, where every dollar stays local.”

Donations came from REALTORS®, banks, appraisers and other businesses and individuals who work with the real estate industry. But many donations also came from other local businesses and members of the public – anyone who felt this was a worthy cause and the kids should be supported. Some of the local businesses set up brightly colored boots on their entry counters to generate publicity and collect donations.

This was the fourth year of the fundraiser, and this year produced the highest dollar amount yet. Briney said the group will be doing the “Boots of Kids” fundraiser again next year. “We have some ideas how we can make it even better. This is all about helping our community,” she said.
