An Illinois REALTOR® faces the possibility of a $250 fine for advertising violations following a panel review of a complaint this week.
This is the first complaint submitted through the Ethics Citation Program, which began Sept. 24.
The REALTOR® is accused of advertising without properly identifying themselves as a real estate licensee and failing to disclose the name of their real estate firm. The standards that IAR members agree to follow are in the Code of Ethics developed by the National Association of REALTORS®.
If the panel decides a possible violation of the Code occurred, the accused REALTOR® has 30 days to provide notice that they will accept the citation and pay the fine or request a full hearing on the complaint. If the Respondent accepts the citation, payment must be received no later than 30 days after the date of acceptance. Failure to pay the citation amount within thirty (30) days will result in the automatic suspension of membership and MLS services until the citation is paid.
The complaint was filed anonymously via the IAR website during the last two weeks. The IAR Board of Directors voted to create the program on Sept. 4 at its meeting in Chicago.
