Star Rork was one of 19 members of the Livingston County Board of REALTORS® who rang the bell on a cold and blustery day for the Salvation Army Dec. 6.
The Livingston County Board of REALTORS® (LCBR) showed its support for the Salvation Army in December by donating toys and other gifts for five needy families and by volunteering at a Salvation Army Red Kettle in Pontiac.
A total of 80 percent of LCBR members responded to the request for donations to help the local families, said LCBR Association Executive Gina Manker, providing money, gift cards or toys. A total of 15 children and seven parents will be helped as a result. Participating offices included: Lyons-Sullivan Realty, Joan Bullard Realty, Gerber Real Estate, Indian Creek Realty, RE Dynamics, Panno Realty, McCoy Realty, Kiley Real Estate, Oasis Properties, Chief City Realty and Livingston County Board of REALTORS® office.
With 11 percent of the county’s population living below the poverty line in Livingston County, about 800 children are affected, said Manker, so was proud of the local association’s pre-Christmas response. Material and monetary donations will provide Christmas dinners, clothing and toys for families served by the Salvation Army.
To help the Salvation Army raise money to help more families, 19 volunteers took turns bell ringing at a location in Pontiac, with several more members placed on a substitute list. Offices participating included: RE Dynamics, Lyons-Sullivan Realty, Panno Realty, Joan Bullard Realty, Indian Creek Realty, McCoy’s Realty and the Livingston County Board of Realtors office.
“Across the country,” Manker said, “volunteers distribute gifts to shut-ins in hospitals and nursing homes. Shelters offer sit-down dinners and Christmas gifts for families with children. All holiday assistance programs are administered at the local level. If you would like to assist those in need this Christmas or anytime of the year, please contact your local Salvation Army.”
