As the National Association of REALTORS® Conference & Expo gets into full swing in New Orleans, Illinois REALTOR® leaders are participating in NAR governance meetings looking at the issues facing the industry.

Loretta Alonzo, (far right) the 2012 president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) and chair of the NAR Housing Opportunity Committee discusses the impact that economic development, land use, transportation and zoning policies can have on housing affordability.

 

 

REALTOR® and IAR member Nancy Suvarnamani, CIPS, Chair of the NAR Global Business and Alliance Committee, discusses the growth of global real estate partnerships and announces that NAR will be signing a bilateral agreement with the real estate syndicate in the country of Lebanon.

 

The Federal Finance and Housing Policy Committee hears from Tony Hernandez, Administrator of the Rural Housing Service office within the USDA. He emphasized the importance of REALTOR® engagement on rural lending issues and carrying the REALTOR® message on the definition of rural area to members of Congress.

 

IAR member and Chair of the Conventional Finance and Policy Committee Mabél Guzmán discussed the results of the work of a subcommittee that looked at impacts of student loan debt. The committee also discussed GSE reform and crowdfunding as a source of capital for real estate investment.
