Veteran REALTOR® Mabél Guzmán of @properties in Chicago will testify Tuesday morning in Washington, D.C. about “factors affecting homeownership access and affordability” for first-time homebuyers and underserved communities.

Guzmán’s appearance is scheduled during a Housing, Transportation and Community Development subcommittee hearing for the U.S. Senate. According to information from Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), the topic is “Inequality, Opportunity, and the Housing Market.” Menendez is the subcommittee chairman.

Guzmán is the 2015 Vice Chair of the Illinois REALTORS® Political Involvement Committee. She is the 2014 National Association of REALTORS® Chair of the Conventional Financing and Policy Committee.

Other potential topics will include: economic trends, access to credit, affordable housing, homeownership, mortgage credit, household debt burdens and initiatives to help communities with many foreclosures.

“I am very excited about it and humbled I was accepted to testify,” Guzmán said.

She recently was honored with a 2014 IAR President’s Medallion for Outstanding Service. Since 2008 she has served on multiple IAR committees, including nine for 2015.

In 2012, she received the Community Service Award by the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals and REALTOR of the Year by the Chicago Association of REALTORS® (CAR). In 2010-11, she was the President of CAR.
