January 27, 2023 State Capitol Report

This past week the Senate was in session for organizational purposes. Because this is a new General Assembly, there are new Committee Chairs to be selected as well as assigning legislators to the standing legislative committee. As reported earlier regarding leadership positions, the House and Senate Republicans made major changes. In the House, REALTOR® Representative Tony McCombie (R, Savanna) was elected by her peers to be the new Minority Leader of the House Republicans replacing former Leader and Representative Jim Durkin. In the Senate, Senator John Curran (R, Lamont) was elected to lead the Senate Republicans, replacing Senator Dan McConchie who will remain a Senator.

Legislative Action this Week in Springfield

No legislative action was taken on substantive legislation. The focus was on organizational responsibilities.

Next Week: At-A-Glance

The House will be in session for organizational purposes.  No committee hearings have been posted because committee assignments are not completed yet.  Both the Senate and House continue to introduce legislation.  Your Governmental Affairs team is working their way through the bill introductions.
