Business Issues Forum
(Tues., Sept. 15 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.)

In light of the nationwide diversity and inclusion dialogue, this forum provides an in-depth discussion of implicit bias and how to promote diversity and provide fair housing equally and consistently. Illinois REALTORS® 2020 Business Issues Forum Chair Jeff Gregory and Vice Chair Sarah Ware will join REALTOR® panelists, Nate Johnson, Jasmyn Jefferson and Michelle Walker, in examining the history of segregation and other systemic issues. They also will tackle the persistence of racial injustice in our nation and outline concrete actions that REALTOR® associations, brokerage companies and real estate professionals can take now to collectively and individually turn this tide.

Takeaways:

  • Understanding the existence of implicit bias and possible effects when using common “tools of the trade.”
  • Ways to improve policies and change practices as we work to achieve the goal of racial equity in housing.
  • To quote Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University, who spoke during a recent NAR session with Michelle Mills Clement, CEO of the Chicago Association of REALTORS®, the focus of this session is part of a concerted effort to help us all “imagine being together differently.”
