After More than Three Decades Advocating for Real Estate Professionals and Property Owners, Illinois REALTORS® Government Affairs Leader Greg St. Aubin to Retire at Year’s End.
For the past three decades, Illinois REALTORS’ ® Greg St. Aubin has facilitated and navigated partnerships with seven governors, numerous legislative leaders, and caucuses across the political spectrum to fiercely protect Illinois property owners and real estate professionals.
Now, with countless legislative success stories behind him and with the gratitude of tens of thousands of REALTORS ® across the state, St. Aubin, Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs for Illinois REALTORS®, will retire at the end of 2025.
Since joining the association’s lobbying team in 1987, St. Aubin has been a respected, effective voice at the State Capitol and has shaped the future of homeownership for generations of Illinoisans.
Over the course of his career, St. Aubin has spearheaded campaigns that protected homeowners and real estate professionals from onerous legislation—including securing the passage of a preemptions on rent control, defeating franchise taxes on real estate transactions, and home rule measures that would exclude taxpayers input on real estate tax hikes. He has also played a pivotal role in modernizing state ethics requirements for REALTORS® and improving statewide licensing laws.
“As a respected voice at the Capitol, Greg has built bipartisan coalitions, provided expert testimony, and kept the real estate sector’s commitment to the American Dream of Homeownership at the forefront of public policy,” said Jeff Baker, CEO of Illinois REALTORS®. “His leadership and dedication have established Illinois REALTORS® as a model for advocacy nationwide.”
In addition to his storied state legislative advocacy efforts, St. Aubin worked to simplify municipal tax structures, reduce costs and complexity for real estate businesses, and protect investments in communities across Illinois.
Beyond the Capitol, St. Aubin has helped build Illinois REALTORS®’ Local Governmental Affairs Directors (GAD) program into a national benchmark for industry advocacy. The nationally recognized model strengthens advocacy efforts at the local level and ensures REALTOR® voices are heard in communities across the state.
Before joining Illinois REALTORS®, St. Aubin served as a legislative liaison for the Illinois Department of Revenue and held staff roles with Lt. Governor George Ryan and State Senator Laura Donahue. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University and resides in Springfield.
“Greg’s legacy will continue through the policies he helped shape and the people he mentored,” added Baker. “His retirement is well earned, and we wish him all the best in the next chapter.”
Illinois REALTORS® will commence a national search for its next Government Affairs leader in the coming weeks.
