It incorporates three “container” proposals—long-standing priorities of Illinois REALTORS® —including the expansion of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), “missing middle” housing flexibility, and the standardization of development fees and timelines.
“Roundtables like this one are critical to hearing directly from those that see and experience the supply crisis firsthand,” said Jeff Baker, CEO of Illinois REALTORS®. “We are proud to support the Governor’s BUILD Plan because it mirrors the roadmap our members have proposed since 2020. This is about cutting through red tape to make homeownership attainable again.”

McLean County leaders discuss support of Pritzker’s BUILD proposal at roundtable
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker visited Bloomington on Wednesday to promote his Building Up Illinois Developments proposal, aimed at increasing housing supply and improving affordability across the state.
Brandon Shaffer, a representative with the Illinois Association of Realtors, said Bloomington-Normal has seen a significant drop in available housing over the past decade, leaving fewer options for people looking to move to the area.
Pritzker hosts Bloomington roundtable to tackle high housing costs
Gov. JB Pritzker came to Bloomington on Wednesday to discuss with advocates and leaders his proposals to bring down the cost of housing.
“Bloomington Normal as a whole over the last ten years has got an inventory shortage of about 85%,” said Brandon Shaffer with Central Illinois Realtors. “You put your home on the market. You have many buyers that are arriving at your front door in order to see that house.”
