It may have felt like Antarctica out there, but Illinois REALTORS® spent Wednesday doing what they always do: checking properties and serving customers.

Schools and businesses throughout the state closed as record-setting frigid temperatures gripped the state, but REALTOR® Matt Silver, a partner with Urban Real Estate in Chicago said he spent the morning setting up lock boxes, meeting a flooring installer and setting up appointments.

REALTORS® make a habit of checking vacant properties they are listing to make sure there are no weather-related mishaps. REALTOR® Mabél Guzmán with @Properties Goose Island made the rounds Wednesday morning, checking that the heat was on and faucets were running at a slow drip.

When Guzmán found a property with a sump pump failure, she made sure a plumber was dispatched.

REALTOR® Chris Pezza with Miller Chicago Real Estate handled a myriad of property management calls. Not surprisingly, several had to do with heating issues. Pezza was out checking his properties.

“I had a general contractor no show to work inside a unit because it was too cold,” Pezza said. “I was already there thawing out the lock box with no gloves.”
