In his budget address Wednesday, Governor JB Pritzker highlighted policies aimed at increasing housing supply, reflecting priorities Illinois REALTORS® has supported for years in Springfield.
“This is a major step forward for the real estate industry in Illinois,” said Jeff Baker, Illinois REALTORS® CEO. “We have seen supply and inventory put pressure on brokerages, on families, on city budgets. To have this get to this point is a major win.”
The proposal would expand housing density rules statewide, ease certain local zoning restrictions to allow more types of housing in communities and allow accessory dwelling units (ADUs) statewide. Illinois REALTORS® has consistently advocated for steps like these to address low inventory, support private property rights, and reduce barriers to development.
“There’s a lot of other issues that can grab attention, and for this one to be on (Pritzker’s) short list … that’s a huge win for the real estate industry,” Baker said.
