Bruce Rauner, right, talks with IAR officers Mike Drews and Jim Kinney

Illinois needs to do more to help Illinois businesses, which in turn will strengthen the Illinois economy, said Bruce Rauner, the Republican candidate for Illinois governor who spoke to Illinois REALTORS® at the IAR Fall Conference Saturday.

One element of that is reining in the state’s real estate taxes, which Rauner said are among the highest in the country.

Illinois can’t tax its way to a recovery but must grow its way out of economic challenges, he said. It is important that the Illinois real estate industry thrive as its success, and that of other small businesses, can be a bellwether of a stronger economy.

Rauner faces incumbent Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn in the November election. If elected, Rauner told the audience that he plans on moving to Springfield and the governor’s mansion. Gov. Quinn addressed REALTORS® on Friday.
