In a year when many Illinoisans and many communities across the state have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the volunteer work of REALTORS® in their own communities seems more valuable than ever.
And what better way for Illinois REALTORS® members to assist local nonprofit organizations than to secure one of five $10,000 grants available to winners of the National Association of REALTORS® 2020 Good Neighbor Awards program? The deadline for 2020 applications is May 8.
Five winners will be announced this fall in REALTOR® Magazine, and winners will be recognized at the REALTORS® Conference & Expo. Winners will receive travel expenses to the conference as well as national and local media exposure for their community cause. In addition, five honorable mentions will each receive a $2,500 grant. Illinois REALTORS® members might remember when New Lenox-area REALTOR® Dale Taylor was recognized in 2019 for his volunteer work with the homeless at the nonprofit South Suburban Public Action to Deliver Shelter (SSPADS). Taylor is a broker with RE/MAX 10 in New Lenox. SSPADS received a $10,000 grant as a result of Taylor’s recognition.
And in 2018, Naperville-area REALTOR® Jack Persin and Chicago-area REALTOR® Michael LaFargue earned honorable mentions through the Good Neighbor Awards program. As a result, Persin earned a $2,500 grant for Naperville Responds for Veterans, while LaFargue earned $2,500 grant for the West Chesterfield Community Association. LaFargue also received a bonus grant of $2,500 by winning the Web Choice Award that year. Read more.
