McHenry County area REALTORS® are working to get the word out on a rental property scam that has surfaced locally that involves getting renters to make deposits and payments on rental listings that aren’t really on the market.

“It is no longer just a foreign, overseas scam. It is now becoming a local situation, too,” Heartland Realtor Organization CEO Jim Haisler told WBBM radio. Read the news story which also includes comments from REALTOR® Sue Miller, managing broker at Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office recently issued a news release outlining how the scam works and warning signs to be aware of when looking to rent.
