Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® (MORe) didn’t let the “Stay at Home” Executive Order prevent its 2020 Law Day event. Instead, panelists participated in a virtual meeting May 1 and the discussion drew an audience of more than 200.

Illinois REALTORS® General Counsel Betsy Urbance provided an overview of updates to the Real Estate License Act (RELA) with a special focus on topics that impact designated managing brokers the most. Members can login and get the full picture of RELA changes by watching the RELA Legal Update Web Series featuring Illinois REALTORS® legal team explaining changes to the law in bite-sized chunks.

Illinois REALTORS® Director of Member Outreach Gideon Blustein partnered with REALTOR® Annette Akey Panzek of Exit Realty Redefined in Wheaton to provide background on the Cook County Just Housing Amendment that went into effect Feb. 1, 2020. This new local Fair Housing law is having a big impact on how rental leasing is conducted in Cook County. Illinois REALTORS® made a big impact on the new law by responding to a Call For Action. Illinois REALTORS® has put together a Questions and Answers document as well as a podcast to help ensure REALTORS® can be in compliance with this new local ordinance.

MORE’s Counsel, Joseph Fortunato, provided an explanation of new privacy laws and how they impact audio/visual recordings of clients. Participants asked excellent questions throughout the meeting which were moderated by MORE’s Vice President of Professionalism and Career Development Kate Sax.
