Alton Police are investigating the death of Godfrey-area REALTOR® and Godfrey Village Board Trustee Eldon Williams, who was found shot and killed late Tuesday morning in Alton, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Williams was an associate broker for Landmark Realty in Godfrey. His body was found in a car parked in the driveway in the 200 block of West Delmar Avenue in Alton.  A “person of interest” is in custody, according to Alton police. The Godfrey Village Board closed its offices early Tuesday  in response to the news of Williams’ death.

REALTOR® Matt Horn said Williams will be missed at Landmark Realty and the business posted a message on its Facebook page as well, according to KMOV4.com. Village officials and residents remembered him in a story on riverbender.com.

He became a REALTOR® in 1969 and is part of the Greater Gateway Association of REALTORS®, Illinois REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. He served as local association president in 1984 and 1991. He was named a REALTOR® Emeritus in 2012.

Illinois REALTORS® gave Williams Opportunity Race support in his 2015 election bid as a village trustee.
