Former Illinois REALTORS® local Governmental Affairs Director Conor Brown has been named chief executive officer for the Rockford Area REALTORS® (RAR).

He replaces outgoing RAR CEO Steve Bois, who served in that capacity since 2008.

As a local governmental affairs director, Brown served the Belvidere Board of REALTORS®, the Heartland REALTOR® Organization, the REALTOR® Association of Northwestern Illinois and the Rockford Area REALTORS®. He also served as the regional manager for member outreach. He worked for Illinois REALTORS® for 12 years.

Prior to working for Illinois REALTORS®, Brown served as manager of government affairs for the Rockford Chamber of Commerce. Before that, he worked for four years as senior legislative assistant for former U.S. Rep. Donald Manzullo in Washington, D.C.

In a Rockford Register-Star article today, Brown says Rockford-area homeowners aren’t happy with taxing bodies that want more money than property taxes will provide.

In March, Rockford voters rejected a referendum that would have established home rule there. If passed, the referendum could have allowed the Rockford City Council to raise taxes to make up a $3.9 million shortfall in the 2018 city budget without having to ask voters to approve a specific tax hike.
