Illinois REALTORS® President-elect Dan Wagner told readers in an Inman News editorial published Saturday about the state association’s efforts to promote awareness of conservation practices in real estate.

In the editorial, Wagner discusses the association’s work with the Prairie State Conservation Coalition which works on preservation projects throughout Illinois. Illinois REALTORS® met in June with members of the coalition to discuss ways the two groups could work together, and a second session is planned for October.

Wagner writes:

“Under all is the land.” These are the first five words of the preamble of the Realtor Code of Ethics. When you boil it down, the essence of our commercial and residential real estate industry is all about the land.

Wagner, senior vice president for government relations with the Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, has made conservation awareness a key part of his initiatives for the upcoming year.

The association plans to help members better understand the use of voluntary conservation easements, which allow property owners to preserve land in perpetuity for public benefit. The association is also working to provide resources for those interested in integrating native plantings into development projects which can enhance beauty and better manage stormwater runoff.
