A federal court recently ruled that floor plan drawings fall into the “fair use” category and do not infringe on architectural design copyright laws. The use of floor plans is a popular and valuable tool for agents when marketing properties for sale.

Professionals in the real estate industry have used these kinds of two-dimensional drawings to show potential customers the layout of homes. But a series of lawsuits accused real estate professionals of violating architectural copyright laws.
