More than 22,000 Illinois real estate brokers still need to renew their licenses by April 30 if they want to continue to serve consumers.

That’s according to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), which requires brokers to renew their licenses every two years. Through Tuesday afternoon, more than 27,000 of the more than 50,000 licensed brokers in Illinois had renewed, leaving the others to act by 11:59 p.m. April 30.

Illinois REALTORS® is advising member brokers to visit the IDFPR website between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. and allow extra time if technical issues occur due to the volume of those who may be accessing the online renewal portal.

The vast majority of brokers renew online, according to IDFPR. Through Tuesday, 98.6 percent of brokers renewed online, while 1.4 percent – less than 400 individuals – submitted paper applications. Brokers who submit paper renewal applications in the coming days must still meet the April 30 deadline.
