Dale Taylor, an Illinois REALTOR® who has devoted nearly two decades helping the homeless in his Chicago suburb, was honored as one of five recipients of the National Association of REALTORS® Good Neighbor Awards on Saturday in San Francisco.
Taylor, with RE/MAX 10 in New Lenox, Ill., was honored first at a general session held at the NAR Conference & Expo. Initially, the five finalists were told they would receive $10,000 for their charity. But, in a surprise announcement marking the 20th year of the Good Neighbor Awards, that number was boosted to $20,000.

Each of the five winners – selected by a multi-stage, criteria-based judging process – will receive a $10,000 grant for their charity and be featured in the November-December issue of Realtor® Magazine.
Taylor has raised more than $3 million for South Suburban PADS, but his volunteer work goes far beyond fundraising. Taylor overnights once a week at a shelter, overseeing the facility and making sure every person “is treated as a guest — with respect and the dignity they deserve.”
“When you are called to serve you learn the meaning of unconditional commitment,” Taylor said at a gala dinner celebrating the award’s 20th year.

On hand to see Taylor received the award were members of his local association, Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® and other colleagues from Illinois REALTORS®.
In addition to Taylor, four others were honored. They are:
- Bruce Johnson, RE/MAX of Wasaga Beach, Inc., Wasaga Beach, Ontario; for SickKids Foundation/Children’s Miracle Network;
- Mark Solomon, Keller Williams 1st Realty, Longmont, Colorado; for Veterans Community Project;
- Kimberly Strub, Coldwell Banker, Mill Valley, California; for Schurig Center for Brain Injury Recovery;
- Paul Wyman, The Wyman Group, Kokomo, Indiana; for Turning Point.
The 20th anniversary gala was marked by the attendance of many previous Good Neighbor Award participants, including four of the five initial Good Neighbor Award winners. Each shared the story of how their volunteerism has continued through the years.
