Although political analysts Chris Robling and Dave Lundy represented opposing political philosophies at the RPAC Recognition Luncheon Wednesday, they both agreed that Gov. Bruce Rauner has not helped  himself with recent missteps.

The two debated federal and state issues in front of about 150 REALTORS as a part of the Illinois REALTORS® Public Policy Meetings in East Peoria. President Donald Trump, the tax reform package, the U.S. economy, the federal budget, immigration, the investigation regarding Russian political interference, Hillary Clinton, the repeal of Dodd-Frank and David Duke were some of the topics they tackled.

Some of Rauner’s decisions have rankled fellow Republicans and caused him to face opposition in the primary election. And while Robling said State Representative Jeanne Ives could provide a “safe harbor” for Republicans, he fell short of predicting she would beat Rauner in the primary. He predicted Erika Harold for Illinois attorney general and reelection of House Republican Leader and Rep. Jim Durkin and U.S. Congressman Peter Roskam.

Lundy said J.B. Pritzker will win the Democratic primary and could beat Rauner in the general election. But Lundy also said he’s done work for Pritzker and two other candidates for office, Jesse Ruiz for Illinois attorney general and Sean Casten for U.S. House, so he isn’t unbiased in his support.

Robling encouraged REALTORS for their political involvement. He said, “We thank you for your activism. And remember, there’s no problem in Illinois that can’t be solved through participation.”

Lundy and Robling appear on @WGN Radio in Chicago during “The Download” with Justin Kaufmann, 7 to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. When discussing events of the day, Robling provides the Republican/conservative viewpoint while Lundy gives the Democrat/liberal view.
