Advocacy

Four key REALTOR® victories in the spring legislative session

Lawmakers closed out the spring session of the Illinois General Assembly with successes on key issues.

Rent Control effort runs aground

A bill seeking the repeal of a state ban on Rent Control never made it out of a subcommittee following intense lobbying and a REALTOR® Call for Action.

License Act passes with emphasis on professionalism

Illinois REALTORS® worked with IDFPR on agreed-to changes for the Real Estate License Act. The bill passed with overwhelming support and contains new provisions which enhance industry professionalism.

Commercial assessment bill in Cook County stalls

Association opposition to a Cook County Assessor’s bill which would radically alter how property values are established resulted in the legislation languishing in committee. The bill failed this session amid fears that the proposed changes would increase property taxes.

Late effort sinks proposal to triple state transfer tax

In the final hours of the spring session, lawmakers inserted language in a revenue bill which would have tripled the state’s portion of the real estate transfer tax on non-residential. REALTOR® opposition resulted in the language being stripped out of the bill.
