This week, the U.S. Census Bureau named the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) as one of its national partners in the 2020 Census.

Census infographicThe Census Bureau will provide REALTORS® with promotional materials that will explain the significance of the census, from determining Congressional representation to allocating funds for schools, roads and various public services. The amount of money Illinois receives for the national school lunch program, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers and Federal Direct Student Loans will be influenced by population changes.

“NAR is able to provide tremendous value to our members because of the research we produce examining trends in communities across this country. But the usefulness of that information relies on current, accurate data from the federal government,” said NAR President Vince Malta. “Full participation in the Census is in many ways the only way to ensure that data is correct.”

According to the Census Bureau, notices about the 2020 Census will be mailed in mid-March. In addition, the questionnaire can be completed online or by phone. NAR reminds members that federal law protects the confidentiality of participants, and that authorized Census workers will not ask for bank account numbers, Social Security numbers or anything on behalf of a political party.

At 1 p.m. March 4, the Census Bureau will conduct a webinar for REALTORS® about the importance of the 2020 Census. Register now.
