Creativity and persistency have helped Max McComb succeed as a Champaign-area REALTOR®, and he believes those traits will serve him well as he seeks a three-year term on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors starting in 2020.

“I like to find ways to get things done,” says the broker for RE/MAX Realty Associates of Champaign. “There are lots of reasons why something can’t happen, but it’s always fun to figure out how to get it to happen.”

McComb says those strengths helped him take on responsibilities with the Champaign County Association of REALTORS® (CCAR) and as a member of the Mahomet-Seymour Board of Education. With CCAR, he’s the immediate past president and has served in several leadership positions, including member of its board of directors and chair of the Education Committee. He’s been elected to his local school board three times, and he’s been chosen by his board colleagues as president.

He is one of nine REALTORS® slated to join the board of directors at the Fall Business Meetings, Sept. 17-19 at the Chicago Marriott in Naperville. He is featured in a series of articles about the slated board members.

Finding real estate

Following a career as a corporate trainer, McComb became a REALTOR® in 2008. He is a member of the Illinois REALTORS®’ Business Issues and License Law Forum, Public Policy and Government Affairs Member Involvement Group and the REALTORS® Political Involvement Working Group. He was a member of the 2014 Leadership Development Class. He is the State Legislative Contact to Rep. Dan Caulkins of Decatur.

McComb says he made the right choice becoming a REALTOR®. “I became and continue to be a REALTOR® because I enjoy serving people in a professional capacity, and I enjoy being an entrepreneur,” he says. “So, this profession is a natural fit for me.”

His involvement with CCAR was key to enhancing his professionalism and adding to his credibility with colleagues and clients, he says. In fact, the profession has provided him with networks for information, support and referrals.

“I measure my success by repeat clients and client referrals,” McComb says. “Those are the best indicators I know.”

McComb has earned designations of Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) and Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE).
