The aid was for victims of the twisters which struck a number of communities April 9 near Rochelle, Ill., and another which struck June 22 in Coal City, Ill.
The donations came from two REALTOR® organizations which provide aid in the wake of disasters.
- The Illinois REALTOR® Relief Foundation, which is a charitable arm of the 43,000-member Illinois Association of REALTORS®, processed 159 applications and awarded $78,980 in aid.
- IAR also donated $25,000 to the National Association of REALTORS®’ charitable arm, the Realtor Relief Foundation. In all, the national foundation processed 73 applications, awarding $75,000 for housing-related assistance.
“REALTORS® have always been among the first to help when communities are hit by disasters,” said IAR President Mike Drews. “The state and national foundations’ donations are a testament to the fact that REALTORS® will always be there for the neighbors we serve.”
IAR has a long history of donating to disaster recovery efforts nationwide. The association has made significant contributions for recovery in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, hurricanes Katrina and Sandy and after a number of tornadoes that have struck the state in recent years.
The Illinois Association of REALTORS®, based in Springfield, Ill., represents 43,000 REALTORS® engaged in all aspects of the real estate business.
