Illinois REALTORS® today announced the appointment of Aaron Turner as a Governmental Affairs Director (GAD) in Chicago.

The Illinois REALTORS® GAD program has been recognized as a model for local government advocacy among REALTOR® organizations nationwide. It is an extension of the substantial public policy advocacy resources provided by Illinois REALTORS®. The GADs work with REALTORS® advocating for the protection of homeownership and private property rights.

GADs are located across the state to help local associations and their members organize for or against public policy proposals that impact the industry or private property rights. Also, GADs play critical roles in promoting the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and identifying local leaders who should be supported politically.

In his role as the newest member of the association’s Chicago Governmental Affairs Team, Turner will focus on building relationships and educating the Chicago City Council members. With 13 newly elected aldermen and a new mayor, Turner will work to enhance REALTORS® legislative efforts in Chicago while helping the GAD team promote the interests of property owners throughout Illinois.

Turner has significant experience in political and public affairs. Most noteworthy, before joining the Illinois REALTORS® Turner served as the Director of Government Affairs at the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). At IHDA, he ensured the passage of housing-related legislation at both the state and federal levels and worked hand-in-hand with state legislators to develop and implement state-funded programs and properties. Turner held multiple roles within IHDA, providing him vast understanding of the government’s role in the housing market.

Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication from Southern Illinois University and completed Spanish studies at the University of Veritas in Costa Rica.
