College-bound military veterans pursuing real estate careers must submit applications by April 1 to be considered for the 2019-2020 George L. Patt Scholarship.

The Patt scholarship is offered through the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF) and is designed to help Illinois residents who are veterans or members of active reserves pursue an undergraduate college or university education in real estate or real estate administration. Scholarships will be awarded using the following criteria:

  • Applicant’s record of military service,
  • Applicant’s record of scholastic achievement, including academic grade point average,
  • Applicant’s economic need or situation,
  • Applicant’s intended course of study and career goals and
  • Applicant’s references and recommendations.

The number of scholarships awarded will be determined by REEF, and scholarships may be used for expenses including tuition, room and board, texts and materials at any college or university in Illinois.

The Patt Scholarship was established in memory of George L. Patt, who started his real estate career after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Patt was the first full-time executive vice president for the Lake County Board of REALTORS®. He also served as the executive vice president for: the Danville Area Board of REALTORS®, the DuPage Board of REALTORS®, the Naples (Florida) Board of REALTORS®, the South Suburban Association of REALTORS® and the Southwest Suburban Association of REALTORS®. Patt was the state executive vice president for the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS® and served on numerous boards and committees for the Illinois REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. He is a former director and president of REEF.

REEF is a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois. The foundation is supported by voluntary contributions from organizations and individuals who recognize the importance of furthering academic experience and training in the real estate industry in Illinois.

REEF offers seven other scholarships with April 1 deadlines: Academic Scholarship, Daniel L. Goodwin Scholarship, George Patt Scholarship, Morgan L. Fitch Scholarship, Parker R. Oldenettel Scholarship, Richard “Dick” Wiegers Scholarship and Thomas F. Seay Scholarship.

The Alan S. Toban Grant Fund has an April 15 deadline.
