In April, the Three Rivers Association of REALTORS® partnered with the City of Joliet and the Will County Center for Economic Development to conduct the City of Joliet Housing Expo. The event drew about 250 consumers and 40 vendors/community partners (real estate companies, lenders, inspectors, local schools, public library and public transportation).

The goals of the expo were to educate potential homebuyers about the city’s down payment assistance program, provide all the tools necessary to get ready to purchase a home and to showcase the city’s housing stock and community amenities.

The expo was seeded with a $4,000 Housing Opportunity Grant from the Three Rivers Association of REALTORS®. The Housing Opportunity Grant Program is run by the National Association of REALTORS® and exists to support the efforts of state and local REALTOR® associations implementing affordable housing programs and initiatives.  The goal of the program is to position REALTORS® as leaders in improving their communities by creating housing opportunities.

The expo was capped with a Joliet Home and Neighborhood Tour for 20 potential homebuyers. The participants rode a bus and walked-through five available properties. While driving between properties, Joliet’s Neighborhood Services Director Alfredo Melesio spoke about neighborhood and city amenities.
