Beverly Carter

NAR President-Elect Chris Polychron is urging REALTORS® to look out for each other and take steps to protect themselves from harm following the death of Arkansas real estate agent Beverly Carter.

“I urge all REALTORS® to honor Beverly Carter by keeping safe and looking out for each other,” said Polychron. Carter was reported missing on Sept. 25 after showing a property in Scott, Ark., to a new client.  Her body was discovered yesterday in a nearby town.

A man arrested in connection with her disappearance has admitted he kidnapped her but denied that he killed her.  He has told members of the news media that she was targeted because she was “a woman who worked alone, a rich broker.”

The Arkansas REALTORS® Association is collecting donations in Carter’s name through its Hearts & Homes program. For more information, visit arkansasrealtors.com.

During the month of September, the NAR and the Illinois Association of REALTORS® encouraged members to follow safety tips listed on the NAR website. Get the details in our Sept. 29 story, “Six great ways to enhance your personal safety.”
