Congress passed a two-week extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Thursday and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is urging House and Senate members to find a more permanent solution by June 14.

The NAR is taking several actions to stay on top of the issue, including talks with members of Congress, working with a coalition of industry groups, initiating calls for action to Federal Political Coordinators and more. REALTORS® can sign in and get the details here.

Meanwhile, flooding along the Illinois and Mississippi rivers gained more attention this week as Gov. J.B. Pritzker activated 200 Illinois National Guard members to assist with flood and levee monitoring. In today’s Chicago Tribune, he urged towns and cities along rivers to prepare evacuation plans, especially those living in Calhoun, Jersey, Green, Scott, Morgan and Cass counties.
