The latest round of mitigation to stop the spread of COVID-19 will not affect the way REALTORS® in Illinois do business.

You can still host open houses following specific guidelines for open houses and continue to help home buyers and sellers as the pandemic continues.

But remember to engage in social distancing, wearing masks and avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people in meetings.

Eleven regions in the state are now under mitigation requirements due to the rolling seven-day positivity rate for COVID-19 testing.

As such, Illinois prescribes specific mitigation requirements for four settings:

  • bars,
  • restaurants,
  • meetings, social events and gatherings and
  • organized group recreational activities.

Region 1 which covers the northwest section of the state, has reached Tier 2 status, while the other 10 regions are in Tier 1. Tuesday, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker outlined his concerns about communities that are disregarding or challenging the state’s mitigation recommendations. He said he doesn’t want sick people turned away from hospitals that don’t have enough room to accept new patients. But he fears that will happen unless residents follow state guidelines.

“…Every region of this state has exceeded the criteria for tightened mitigations because we are in the middle of a COVID storm that appears to be sweeping across the entire nation – and our trajectory is only getting worse,” Pritzker said. “This is far from over. So, please take extra caution. Wear your mask today and every day going forward until we get through this.”
