While the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) funds various events for elected officials throughout the year, RPAC Trustees provide additional support to candidates in key races each election cycle. Almost 90% of targeted candidates won in Tuesday’s Illinois’ primary election, including two of our own members, Jean Crosby and Laura Curtis.

In addition to providing direct RPAC contributions to several candidates, three successful candidates in key races were supported by the Illinois REALTORS® Fund, which advocates for candidates on their behalf in particularly tough races. These are called Independent Expenditures (IE). Crosby earned the Republican nomination for her Winnebago County Board seat with the support of RPAC and the Illinois REALTORS® Fund. She received 53% of the vote in a two-way race. A pair of Democratic state senators also benefitted from our IE program: Sen. Tony Munoz (Chicago) and Sen. Patrick Joyce (Kankakee Area). Munoz garnered 62% of the votes in a two-way race, while Joyce received 47% in a four-way race.

RPAC supported four state senate candidates:

  • John Connor (D) Dist. 43
  • Meg Loughran Cappel (D) Dist. 49
  • Darren Bailey (R) Dist. 55 and
  • Terri Bryant (R) Dist. 58

RPAC supported 12 candidates for state representative:

  • incumbent Rep. Aaron Ortiz (D) Dist. 1
  • incumbent Rep. Theresa Mah (D) Dist. 2
  • incumbent Rep. Mary Flowers (D) Dist. 31
  • Tim Ozinga (R) Dist. 37
  • incumbent Rep. Jaime Andrade Jr. (D) Dist. 40
  • REALTOR® Laura Curtis (R) Dist. 49
  • incumbent Rep. Rita Mayfield (D) Dist. 60
  • incumbent Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R) Dist. 66
  • incumbent Rep. Barbara Hernandez (D) Dist. 83
  • incumbent Rep. Avery Bourne (R) Dist. 95
  • incumbent Rep. Dan Brady (R) Dist. 105 and
  • incumbent Rep. Dave Severin (R) Dist. 117

Finally, we successfully backed four local referendums. REALTORS® in Opposition to Home Rule stopped Westchester, Lynwood, and Burr Ridge from gaining home-rule status garnering 78%, 60% and 68% of the vote, respectively.  And, REALTORS® in Support of Local Sales Tax & Property Tax Relief aided in the passing of a non-home-rule sales tax increase in Bradley. The additional revenue will be used to offer residents property tax relief.
