The Chicago Chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) celebrated the diversity of Asian cultures and honored past, present and future leaders during its annual installation ceremony late last week.

Illinois REALTORS® Immediate Past President Matt Difanis and ABC 7 television news reporter Cate Cauguiran emceed the event that installed AREAA Chicago President Tuyen Nguyen and the rest of the Chicago chapter’s 2019 leadership team.

The list of speakers and presenters included REALTOR® Nancy Suvarnamani, Century 21 SGR Inc., of Chicago, who was the founding chair of AREAA Chicago, AREAA National Chair Tom Truong and Chicago Chairman of the Commission on Human Relations Mona Noriega. A key focus of Noriega’s office is enforcement of the Chicago fair housing ordinance.

Noriega’s commitment to fair housing is shared by Nguyen, who said she is proud of the commitment AREAA has made to equal access to housing that is safe and affordable.  Nguyen said she is inspired by Truong because he is committed to focus on access, awareness and education for fair and affordable housing.

“I think our chapter’s biggest impact in Illinois would be raising awareness on affordable housing programs and challenges to all communities,” she said.

The chapter is focused on partnership in this effort and wants to focus on a team approach with other industry partners.  In April, which is Fair Housing Month, the chapter will work with Wells Fargo on an event focused on affordable housing.
