Illinois REALTORS® and Chicago Association of REALTORS® hosted a Chicago Mayoral Candidates Forum on Wednesday January 18th at Manny’s Delicatessen. The forum was an opportunity for candidates to speak directly to approximately 250 Chicago REALTORS®. Each of the nine candidates on the ballot participated in the forum, outlining their priorities for Chicago’s housing economy and submitting answers to questions on REALTOR® Housing Priorities.

The event was jointly hosted by Illinois REALTORS® and Chicago Association of REALTORS® and additionally featured leadership and policy statements from each of the REALTOR® Industry Partners: AREAA-GC, Dearborn Realtist Board, NAHREP Chicago, Real Estate to the Rescue, VAREP, The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, and the Women’s Council of REALTORS® Chicago. Many of the candidates commented positively on the diversity represented among REALTOR® leaders. All nine candidates for mayor shared both personal stories of achieving the American Dream of Homeownership alongside specific housing policy proposals to spur the creation of new residential inventory.

All nine candidates for mayor completed a housing policy questionnaire which was used to create a candidate guide for members. The candidates for mayor are: incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Ja’Mal Green, Alderman Sophia King, Representative Kam Buckner, Willie Wilson, Commissioner Brandon Johnson, Paul Vallas, Alderman Roderick Sawyer, and Congressman Jesús “Chuy” Garcia. The Chicago election takes place Feb. 28th (early voting begins Feb. 13th) with a run-off election between the top two candidates expected to take place April 4th
